Cannabis grabbed our family Initially, we didn't take the advice of our middle son, Charles, who was lobbying to get into the weed business many years prior. "Are you kidding?" was our first response! Fast forward to 2014, 6 years later, when another opportunity presented itself. By then, our whole attitude had changed, so we quit our jobs, packed our bags, and moved (after 40 years) from Connecticut to Colorado. Fortunately, my daughter, Caitlin, and family were on board, and Charles came from California. We were ready to start our new endeavor with the package complete.
Our family knew that the battle would not be easy. Our business would be located in Niwot, and we faced opposition from the town; it was an uphill battle. There were protests from the residents called "No Pot in Niwot." They even sued Boulder County, causing an additional 18-month delay. However, we were committed, and after three and a half years, we were issued our first license to open a dispensary. We were in business!
"Our journey didn't end there; we had so much to do and more to learn."
We had to develop new relationships and understand how we fit in, what made our customers tick, and how we could provide their desired services and products. It was challenging but fun too. The roller coaster went up and down. Quickly we developed our business model. We knew that we wanted to offer the best products and many of them at different price points that appealed to a diverse group of people. Fortunately, as a family-owned business, we had the flexibility to adapt to whatever was needed. Our commitment to being a top-notch business was undeniable from the start.
Boy, did we work, and the days were long, but we learned so much about the "weed" business. The women in the family run the show and are the backbone of the business. We all came into the industry with unique experiences and skills, yet it was a challenge to figure out who did what and avoid stepping on each other's toes. Finally, five years later, we have a better understanding, and it is getting easier. It's imperfect, but we have immensely learned and improved over these past five years.
"We are so proud of Callie's and are grateful to be working every day in our family business."
We are as committed now as ever to delivering the products, experiences, and services to our customers that they deserve. The expression, "Our Mom Sells Your Mom Weed," came after years of mom bud tending and realizing that customers enjoyed buying cannabis from the mom who worked non-stop with her kids.
Our team enjoys human connections. In fact, we desire them. Since mom is always watching, we ensure our budtenders are knowledgeable, well-trained, professional, and ready to answer your questions.
Here is our advantage – as a family-owned business, we can be more "human" than a large corporation or MSO (Multi-state Operator). How does that affect what we do? We are on the front line, and we care. Our involvement is beneficial to our customers, our suppliers, and our employees. After all, our reputation is on the line daily, every hour, and every sale.
